Endorsement Process
When the New Paltz Green Party "endorses" a candidate, in the absence of ballot status, we can guarantee:
- 8 person / hrs of work, minimum, on the campaign,
- promotion on the listserve and the announcements list and website
The New Paltz Green Party process for endorsing a candidate:
- Candidate fills out both general candidate's questionnaire and questionnaire specific to the office.
- We invite her/him, by letter, to a meeting to discuss the candidacy.
- Format for candidate discussions: (1/2 hour)
- Candidate speaks for 5 minutes
- Go around room asking one question each
- If there is time, people can ask additional questions
- If 1/2 hour is not enough time we can agree to discuss longer if possible.
- After candidate leaves, we will decide on endorsement according to the process in the by-laws.
- After the interview they will be given an opportunity to change any responses to the questionnaires, after which time their questionnaires and responses will be shared on our website, on our members-only listserve or not at all, per the the candidate's wishes.
- Candidates will be notified of final endorsement decision by letter and email.
- Change of registration, while always encouraged, will not be a requirement for endorsement.
This process will be used for candidates not seeking endorsement, except the endorsement process will be skipped.
All candidates filling out and submitting a questionnaire will be invited to be interviewed.
